Al meer dan vijftig cd-opnamen zijn inmiddels verschenen van de Amerikaanse sopraan Sylvia MacNair. Haar repertoire is breed en ze treedt op in operahuizen over de hele wereld. Op deze nieuwe cd staat de muziek van Henry Purcell centraal. De meeste liederen zijn afkomstig uit de grotere werken bestemd voor het theater. Te beluisteren zijn o.a.: "If music be the food of love", "Hark, hark, the echoing air (Fairy Queen)", "O let me weep", "Sweeter than roses". Ze wordt begeleid door The Academy of Ancient Music o.l.v. Christopher Hogwood.
